Who may use the Holy Family Library?

In addition to our students, faculty and staff, everyone from the Gorman community is also welcome to use the Media Center. Just drop in if you need a place to read, use the computer, or even sign up to be an AR reader. Priority of computer use will be given to students doing research.

Students are entitled to check out up to five units of library materials but requests to borrow more are often honored. Parents and friends of the school may also check out circulating library materials, including books, Music Ministry CDs and videos with no charge.

When may students check out library resources?

As soon as they start school!

All new students will be in both the circulation and AR programs by the beginning of each school year and they are ready to go! Please check with the librarian for assistance if you are using the library for the first time.

How long may I keep the library resources?

The general loan period for books, audio books and music CDs is three weeks. Some materials may be set up for specified loan periods such as overnight or 2-day upon teacher requests.

Videos and periodicals may be checked out to students and the community for two days. Referene books are also circulating for overnight use.

Patrons may renew library items if they are not requested by other patrons.

Do you charge for overdue fines?

Yes, users are responsible for returning their library resources on time and an overdue fine of 10 or 25 cents on each item per school day or 25 cents will be charged if they are late.

When may a student go to the library?

HS students are welcome to go the library during their free time such as in the mornings, during advisory, lunch time and after school hours.

Middle School students will need to report to the designated areas during the above free periods and then come to the library with a pass. However, they will not need a pass when they come after school.

Parents may choose to keep their children in the library under the supervision of the librarian until 4:00 pm if they have assignments or reading to do after school. For students to be supervised by the librarian, they need to report to the library by 3:30 pm.

Will the library be open during the summer?

The Library will not be open regularly during the summer break but special extended hours may be offered.  A daily AR test station will be set up in the school office. Please take advantage of your local public libraries which usually have a wonderful selection of books for children and young adults. They and some local bookstores may even have summer reading programs that will help students to maintain their reading interest.

Who should I talk to when I have concerns about library resources?

For concerns about any library resources, please contact the librarian for immediate discussions.

If your problems are not resolved after the meeting or discussion with the librarian, you may submit a “Request for Reconsideration of Media Center Resources or Classroom Instructional Materials” form which is available through the Media Center, the English Department Chair, or the Principal’s Office. A Review Committee will be named to follow up the complaint process.
