San Pedro Sula, Honduras Partnership Letter

July 2004

My dear brother priests,

The Diocese of Tyler entered into a partnership with the Diocese of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, in September of 2001.   Over the past three years, both dioceses have journeyed together to develop this relationship into one of ecclesial communion, that we might truly become brothers and sisters in Christ.   Included in this partnership with San Pedro Sula is the Diocese of San Angelo in Texas .

Annual meetings continue among our dioceses.   Several parishes in the Diocese of Tyler are in the partnering process with parishes from San Pedro Sula .   Most recently, Bishop T. K. Gorman School representatives traveled to Honduras to formalize and develop a relationship with the Instituto Guadalupano, a catholic middle and secondary school.

The Importance and Dignity of the Eucharistic Celebration

The celebration of the Mass, as the action of Christ and the People of God arrayed hierarchically, is the center of the whole Christian life for the Church both universal and local, as well as for each of the faithful individually. In it is found the high point both of the action by which God sanctifies the world in Christ and of the worship that the human race offers to the Father, adoring him through Christ, the Son of God, in the Holy Spirit. In it, moreover, during the course of the year, the mysteries of redemption are recalled so as in some way to be made present. Furthermore, the other sacred actions and all the activities of the Christian life are bound up with it, flow from it, and are ordered to it (GIRM #16).
